Dr. Fuerst earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1983 and has since built a remarkable career. His accolades include being named California Young Optometrist of the Year and earning the prestigious “Legends” Award for his contact lens and dry eye specialist work. Dr. Fuerst’s passion for advanced care is evident in his work as the team optometrist for the Sacramento Kings and Chairman of the Board for Pacific Laser Eye Center.

As a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and former Chair of the American Optometric Association Cornea and Contact Lens Section, Dr. Fuerst is a leader in his field. Dr. Fuerst lives with his wife and three children in Orangevale, California. Outside the clinic, he enjoys contributing to the community and staying active in professional organizations like the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association and the Sacramento Valley Optometric Society.

Get to Know

Dr. Fuerst is a distinguished optometrist and thought leader in the field of neuro-visual performance training and sports. He holds multiple prestigious roles, including being a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the Society of Eye Care Specialists (SECS). He has also served as the chair of the American Optometric Association’s Cornea and Contact Lens Section and as president of the Sacramento Valley Optometric Society on two occasions. Further, Dr Fuerst is dedicated to the treatment of dry eye disease, and specialty contact lenses.

In addition to his academic and professional accomplishments, Dr. Fuerst is an inventor with six patents to his name, including one for electronic stroboscopic glasses designed for sports training, which was commercialized by Nike. He has an extensive sports medicine background, having been the team eye doctor for the Sacramento Kings for 20 years and the San Francisco 49ers for 4 years. He also provided NBA rookie pre-draft physicals in Chicago for four years and has worked with other professional teams across the NBA, NHL, and Major League Baseball, as well as in women’s professional tennis.

Dr. Fuerst is deeply committed to advancing performance enhancement and concussion prevention. As a principal at Inneuractive, Inc., he collaborates with a neurologist and a medical devices engineer to create innovative, functional solutions to these critical needs in sports and healthcare. His work in neuro-visual performance and concussion management highlights his dedication to improving both athletic performance and overall brain health.
Dr. Fuerst is married to Shirlene, and they have three children and two grandchildren. Dr. Fuerst enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, along with gold, fishing and cycling.
