Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

At Granite Pointe Eye Care, we’ll diagnose your macular degeneration early and help you manage the condition.

What Is Macular Degeneration?

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) develops when your macula — the part of your retina that’s responsible for central vision — becomes damaged. The two main types of macular degeneration are dry and wet, and both can lead to vision loss. Dry AMD develops slowly as you age and may potentially progress into wet AMD if the blood vessels in the back of your eye begin to leak.

Detect It Early

Your first and easiest line of defense against AMD is to schedule regular comprehensive eye exams! The symptoms of macular degeneration include blurry or fuzzy central vision, visual distortions, and trouble with facial recognition. To prevent macular degeneration from progressing, it’s important to catch it early. With our advanced technology, including optomap retinal imaging, optical coherence tomography (OCT), electroretinogram, and fundus photography, we can spot AMD even before it presents any symptoms.
